Identify and Sort

The five main elements in the novel 'Catching Fire' by Suzanne Collins

Suspense
Action
Characters
Romance
Humour
For Me the most important element used in 'Catching Fire' was suspense. A majority of the of this book has high suspense, especially when president Snow pays Katniss an unexpected visit. Warning her about how sceptical certain districts are about the romance btween Peeta and herself, and that if she can't convince them the people she loves lives will be in jeopardy.
"....The people in the Capital were quite convinced. Unfortunately, not everyone in the districts fell for your act,'he says."(Suzanne Collins, Catching Fire)
This is when katniss realises that the things she did during the games were going to haunt her for the rest of her life.

Identify

Three qualities I expect from a ‘good book’ are good beginning, suspense, and realistic characters. The first 20 pages of a book for me, are what help me determine weather or not I will keep reading the book. If the beginning does not intrigue me there is a good chance I will stop reading it all together. Which is also the case with suspense if I can figure out or guess what is going to happen next in a book I don’t see much point in me reading the rest of it. Lastly if the characters are not something I can relate to like someone my own age it doesn’t draw me in as much. When the characters are alot like me it is easier to feel the things they do like their happiness and their pain.

Halse-Anderson, Laurie.
Wintergirls.
 United states. 2009

The book I am currently reading is Wintergirls by Laurie halse Anderson. The beginning was not as good as it could have been. It was really confusing at some parts, but once i got past that it turned out really good. I thought the book was full of suspense. the desisions Lia made through out made you want to know what happened next and kept you on the edge of your seat. Anderson made the main character a young teenage girl going through all the stresses of highschool which made her very relatable. Although i dont think i would have made the same choices as Lia in the book I could understand where she was coming from.
