The short storey I chose was Control by Tasha lauren Cleary.
.....“This isn’t taking care of yourself Alice! You’re in a hospital! Can’t you see that? It may not look like one, but it is. You’re being controlled. You’ve gone so far out of control that you can’t even see you’ve lost control! What is wrong with you Alice, why can’t you see what you’re doing to yourself, to our family?”
“Read the chart again Alexis. I am in control. They’re not forcing me to do anything I don’t want to do. I’m still getting what I want”
“And what exactly do you want Ali? What is it that you want so badly that you’ve cut off your relationship with your mother, left your baby sister wondering what’s happening to you, and left the one person who has never left your side, the one person who has defended you through every bad move you’ve ever made, and the only person who’s still willing to visit you even now you’ve developed such a vulgar personality? What Alice, what is more important to you than me?”
Ali looked at her sister. She missed seeing Alexis every day, of course she did, there’s nothing quite like the bond of twins. But this was something she needed to do. And one thing that even her twin couldn’t fully understand, as hard as she may try. She loved Alexis for everything, but it was time for her to fight for something on her own, too make her own dreams come true. And with those thoughts she looked at her perfect sister, smiled, and stated simply,
“I want to be thin.”
.....I believe that when people become anorexic it is all about the control for them, not doing what everyone wants them to do. "Read the chart again Alexis. I am in control. They're not forcing me to do anything I don't want to do. I'm still getting what I want" (23) She even states it very clearly right in the story, she wants to control what happens to her. This also proves that people like her 'choose to be hungry' its something they enjoy, but it ends up taking over their life.....
